About the Role

This remote position based in the U.S. calls for a skilled Scrum Master to contribute to a significant modernization effort within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare portfolio. The role involves supporting Agile teams working on updating and enhancing vital healthcare systems and enterprise applications that serve Veterans nationwide. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance to fulfill job responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Act as Scrum Master for Agile teams advancing VA healthcare modernization projects.
Lead Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily standups, backlog grooming, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and release planning.
Coach teams on adopting and continually improving Agile principles and collaboration practices.
Support modernization tasks involving legacy VistA/MUMPS-based systems and other enterprise healthcare applications.
Work closely with product owners and stakeholders to organize and prioritize product backlogs and delivery goals.
Identify and address impediments hindering team progress and project completion.
Track team progress, analyze sprint metrics, and encourage ongoing improvements.
Promote open communication, accountability, and transparency across cross-disciplinary teams.
Coordinate efforts among development, infrastructure, cybersecurity, integration, and operations units.
Assist with release planning, managing dependencies, risk identification, and reporting to stakeholders.
Maintain Agile documentation and reporting using tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Azure DevOps.
Foster a cooperative and high-performing team culture focused on delivering mission-critical value and successful modernization outcomes.

Candidate Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business, IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields.
Minimum of five years as a Scrum Master supporting Agile software development or IT modernization initiatives.
In-depth knowledge of Agile frameworks including Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe.
Proven experience facilitating Agile ceremonies and mentoring cross-functional technical groups.
Background in enterprise IT, software, or healthcare modernization projects.
Excellent communication, organizational, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Proficiency with Agile management and collaboration platforms like Jira, Confluence, or Azure DevOps.
Capability to manage multiple priorities in dynamic, fast-paced settings.

Preferred Experience

Familiarity with VA healthcare systems such as VistA, CPRS, or VA modernization efforts.
Knowledge of MUMPS-based legacy healthcare applications and modernization programs.
Experience with DevSecOps, continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD), and cloud modernization initiatives.
Understanding of healthcare interoperability standards including HL7 and FHIR.
Background in large federal government IT projects.
Holds certifications like SAFe, Certified Scrum Master (CSM), PMI-ACP, or equivalent Agile credentials.
Experience supporting distributed or remote Agile teams.

Salary for this role ranges from $125,000 to $154,000 per year. Compensation will be determined based on candidate experience, skills, location, and specific position requirements.
