Job Purpose and Responsibilities
As a Scrap Inspector, you will be responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient flow of incoming and outgoing traffic within the yard. Ensuring that all customers are equipped with the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE), you will conduct detailed inspections of loads and materials to confirm adherence to company standards. Your role involves guiding safe interactions between customers and company machinery to maintain a secure environment and prevent incidents.
- Maintain persistent and clear communication with office personnel and operators controlling yard traffic.
- Safeguard interactions with customers and heavy equipment by enforcing safe distances and directing customers properly.
- Inspect every load comprehensively; quickly report your findings to the office and duly note any noncompliance on inspection records.
- Keep the area around the shredder unloading zone clean and organized.
- Apply consistent and equitable deductions as necessary.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Completion of High School grade 12 or equivalent education.
- No prior experience required, though background in manufacturing, production, scrapyard, or auto parts industries is valued.
- Physical capability to perform tasks that include standing, walking, sitting, climbing, crawling, kneeling, bending, as well as lifting, pushing, and pulling weights up to 50 pounds during the workday.
- Ability to work under diverse weather conditions, from hot, dry summers to cold, harsh winters.
- Comfort with environments that may have dust, odors, fumes, and noise fluctuations.
- Customer-oriented mindset committed to delivering professional and prompt service in all interactions.
- Effective communication skills with open listening and candid dialogue.
- Team collaboration skills, fostering mutual trust, clear expectations, and maintaining or enhancing group morale.
- A valid driver’s license and dependable transportation are mandatory due to the site's inaccessibility via public transit.
