Sanitation Technician

Role overview

This position supports site-wide and company food safety efforts by carrying out sanitation programs and maintaining compliance with cleanliness, safety, and GMP expectations. The role also involves leading sanitation associates, preparing detailed sanitation reports, improving and rolling out SOPs, and delivering practical training to team members.

Minimum qualifications

• Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
• A high school diploma, GED, or similar level of education is required.
• Willingness to work changing shifts and schedules is necessary.
• Strong English reading, speaking, and understanding skills are needed.
• Working familiarity with safety, quality, and materials management systems and procedures is expected.
• The schedule for the day must be understood and followed accurately.
• The role requires the ability to share critical production, quality/food safety, and operational information clearly with managers and teammates.

Physical requirements

• Must be able to work at heights.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly.
• Sensitivity to chemicals should not be unusually high; contact lenses are not recommended.
• Vision must be correctable to 20/20.
• Long periods of standing are required, often on concrete floors.
• Proper PPE must be worn, including a hair net, bump cap, ear plugs, safety shoes, and uniform.
• The job includes frequent bending, stooping, twisting, turning, reaching, stair climbing, and extended standing.
• Must be able to handle hot, cold, dusty, dirty, and chemical-heavy environments.
• Forklift-related duties require OSHA certification and frequent mounting and dismounting.
• The role calls for the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Key responsibilities

• Support all departments in keeping daily cleanliness standards high and site GMPs consistently followed.
• Organize daily tasks by assessing urgent issues, coordinating with operators, understanding shift plans, and staying aware of the work area.
• Help build a strong team culture through collaboration, self-management, and a positive approach.
• Carry out all assigned sanitation tasks in the designated area.
• Understand production schedules, especially where shutdowns are involved.
• Perform detailed cleaning of large work areas and manufacturing equipment.
• Apply knowledge of microbiology and pest control in a food manufacturing setting.
• Work alongside site teams on sanitation, pest control, and housekeeping projects.
• Be comfortable working in enclosed spaces.
• Participate as an active team member in a large plant environment.
• When assigned to an operation area, complete all related duties safely and efficiently.
• Follow the master sanitation schedule and lock-out/tag-out requirements, and complete all related documentation.
• Help the plant meet or exceed production targets.
• Train others on sanitation practices and principles.
• Receive micro training and understand cross-contamination risks.
• Build a thorough understanding of the plant’s process flow.
• Understand traffic flow, airflow, and the color-coding system used onsite.
• Recognize that every associate shares responsibility for quality and food safety.
• Take on additional plant duties as assigned by the manager.

Compensation and company highlights

The stated salary range for US locations in this posting is USD 22.79 to USD 34.18 per hour.
