Overview
The Ministry of Education in New Zealand seeks a Property Advisor for a fixed-term nine-month contract or secondment covering parental leave in Auckland. This role involves overseeing a portfolio of schools to ensure effective management, maintenance, and planning of school properties and infrastructure, aligning with educational requirements both short and long term.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and nurture strong, trusting relationships with school boards and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with individual schools to develop comprehensive asset management plans to sustainably maintain school properties.
- Guide and monitor school projects and expenditures to ensure alignment with educational objectives and the Ministry's asset strategies.
- Adhere to Ministry policies and asset management guidelines to provide accurate, timely advice.
- Maintain precise and current Ministry data and information related to school property portfolios.
- Work cooperatively within the Ministry's teams to share expertise and ensure unified and high-quality service delivery.
- Partner with other teams in the Ministry and School Property sector to deliver effective property and infrastructure solutions supporting teaching and learning.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is an outstanding communicator with a talent for building and managing strong relationships, with the ability to understand stakeholder perspectives, visions, and motivations. They must adapt messaging style suitably when engaging with varied audiences.
- Proven ability to plan and execute initiatives yielding positive outcomes.
- Competence in interpreting and applying policies clearly and appropriately.
- Strong skills in prioritizing and managing multiple concurrent demands.
- Analytical problem-solving with creativity in identifying methods to achieve excellent results.
- Relevant qualifications or experience in asset management, project management, property management, or construction.
- Possession of a valid, clean driver's license.
- Commitment to uphold Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
Additional Information
The School Property group manages over 2,100 state schools and more than 8,000 hectares of land valued at $33.5 billion, focusing on delivering value for money and effective school property investments nationwide. Recent government initiatives have prompted the establishment of an improvement program and leadership directly reporting to the Minister for Education to enhance service delivery and portfolio management.
Salary range for this position is from 100296 to 121490 NZD annually, inclusive of KiwiSaver contributions, depending on experience and skills. Applications close midnight Monday 3rd August 2026.
