Job description

Position Overview

We seek an experienced transport planning leader to guide strategic transport initiatives across the Marlborough region. This full-time role, based in Blenheim, offers a unique chance to shape transport outcomes for both local roads under Marlborough District Council and state highways managed by NZ Transport Agency, providing comprehensive influence over the regional transport network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead regional transport planning initiatives covering local roads and state highways.
  • Provide expert transport advice related to land use development, resource consents, and strategic transport projects.
  • Represent Marlborough Roads at public forums, hearings, and community engagements.
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with councils, developers, and industry stakeholders.
  • Support the formulation of long-term transport strategies and the Regional Land Transport Plan.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have significant expertise in transport planning, capable of navigating complex political and stakeholder environments. You may be a principal or senior professional seeking to broaden your impact. You bring strong analytical skills, stakeholder management experience, and excellent communication abilities. A tertiary qualification in Transport Planning, Engineering, or a relevant discipline is expected.

  • Extensive experience in transport planning roles.
  • Understanding of integrated transport systems.
  • Expertise in collaborating with partners to mould strategic priorities.
  • Strong analytical thinking and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience across planning, infrastructure, or transport system domains.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn about Te Ao Māori, tikanga, te reo Māori, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi relevant to public sector contexts.
