Overview

Wood is seeking Expressions of Interest for the role of Principal Project Control Engineer to support expansion efforts in Qatar. This full-time onsite position involves leading project control activities across FEED, Pre-FEED, Brownfield and Greenfield projects, particularly focused on onshore and offshore oil and gas sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the main liaison with clients and contractor project controllers to ensure accurate cost and progress data aligns with reporting standards.
  • Prepare Planning Support Packages and manage the overall project Contract Time and Resources (CTR) budget.
  • Develop and implement payment plans including milestone payments; prepare and issue project invoices.
  • Establish project controls procedures tailored to project needs and provide weekly/monthly cost and schedule reporting using Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Monitor impacts on cost and schedule due to milestone achievements or delays; identify and report critical path issues promptly.
  • Maintain and develop project Work Breakdown Structures and associated cost and planning control frameworks.
  • Manage project work approval processes, including cost coding and initial budget setups.
  • Control and forecast budgets ensuring change requests are thoroughly evaluated and incorporated when applicable.
  • Coordinate with accounting and billing teams on financial processes and respond to cost queries.
  • Support earned value progress measurement and assist in maintaining project quantities and variance reports.
  • Produce and maintain S-Curves and Histograms for projects; create and update Gantt charts with full resource loading and project linkage.
  • Monitor resource demands and workloads at project and programme levels to anticipate future needs.
  • Identify schedule slippages and make recommendations for recovery actions.
  • Ensure change orders and variations comply with contractual and assignment requirements and that local change management procedures are followed.
  • Track changes via established change management systems; attend client progress meetings and contribute to proposal schedule preparations.
  • Participate in risk analysis workshops and ensure risk management aligns with standards.
  • Maintain accurate and current Project Controls processes and procedures, liaising as needed with clients to achieve quality, time, and budget targets.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • At least 15 years of experience within the oil and gas industry, predominantly offshore downstream sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience in engineering design companies in similar roles.
  • Previous work experience in the Middle East is preferred.
