Role Overview

The Payroll Specialist is an integral member of the business unit team, providing consultancy across various organizational and management domains. Your chief responsibility will be managing accurate and prompt payroll processing for approximately 60 to 80 diverse clients, covering different pay schedules and complexities. Engaging closely with clients, you will analyze their payroll and accounting systems to propose enhancements and efficiencies.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execute high-volume, timely, and error-free payroll processing including on- and off-cycle payrolls for over 800 employees across multiple clients.
  • Master onboarding procedures for new clients and gain expertise in BBSI payroll platforms, CRM (Salesforce), timekeeping, and HRIS technologies to identify best-fit solutions.
  • Conduct on-site client training on payroll software and all relevant functionalities to optimize client self-sufficiency.
  • Develop subject matter expertise regarding client personnel data such as turnover, seasonal staffing changes, time and attendance tracking, payroll reconciliation, imports/exports, regulatory wage requirements, job costing, certified payroll, and both standard and customized reporting needs.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum five years' experience managing payrolls in fast-paced, multi-client environments.
  • Strong orientation towards client service with excellent communication skills.
  • Documented success in implementing process improvements and streamlining operations.
  • Background in bookkeeping or accounting is advantageous.
  • Self-motivated individual with a drive to foster success for businesses served.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of wage and hour laws and payroll tax implications.
  • Experience or familiarity with workers’ compensation claims handling is beneficial.
  • Proficient communication with individuals across all organizational levels.
  • Professionalism in appearance and demeanor paired with strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Exceptional time management and ability to collaborate effectively within a team, working independently when required.
  • High proficiency in MS Office suite, particularly Outlook, Excel, and Word; familiarity with CRM and Citrix platforms preferred.
  • Associate’s degree preferred; advanced degrees considered a plus.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) credentials highly valued.
  • Approximately 10% local travel within 50 miles for client visits and training purposes.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting pay ranges between $27 and $32 per hour, influenced by location, skills, education, experience, and certifications. Incentive pay eligibility is included according to company policies.
