Operations Manager - ESS Trentham

Overview

This is a leadership opening for an experienced operations professional to join the ESS Defence team at Trentham Military Camp in Upper Hutt, Wellington. The role reports to the General Manager and is focused on running multiple operational teams, lifting business performance, strengthening client partnerships, and delivering consistent service results while supporting the wider growth of the sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the performance of several teams and make sure service standards and contract obligations are met.
• Improve profitability by managing budgets, preparing forecasts, and controlling costs effectively.
• Develop strong client relationships and look for ways to expand services and increase revenue.
• Coach, guide, and develop managers and team members to encourage engagement and strong performance.
• Promote and maintain compliance with health and safety, food safety, environmental, and quality requirements.

What We Are Looking For

• Substantial leadership experience across multiple sites in hospitality, facilities, or support services.
• Good commercial judgement, including hands-on experience with budgets and financial performance.
• The ability to build trusted client relationships and influence a range of stakeholders.
• Experience leading large teams, managing change, and developing future leaders.
• Practical understanding of health and safety, compliance, and employment practices in operational settings.
