Nurse Endoscopist

Role Overview

The Nurse Endoscopist position involves performing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures independently, including both upper and lower gastrointestinal tract investigations. This role demands expertise in colon capsule endoscopy as well as the ability to conduct transnasal gastroscopy using specialised equipment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Execute independent diagnostic upper and lower endoscopies and selected therapeutic interventions aligned with individual scope of practice.
• Specialise in colon capsule endoscopy by interpreting image captures, detecting abnormalities, and collaborating with medical staff for accurate diagnoses and patient management.
• Conduct transnasal gastroscopy procedures, including preparation of patients, administering sedation or anaesthesia, monitoring patient wellbeing during procedures, documenting findings thoroughly, and coordinating with physicians for diagnosis and treatment guidance.
• Deliver high-quality specialist nursing care and advice to patients undergoing endoscopic investigations at King’s College Hospital.
• Offer support and guidance to patients and their families or carers attending the Endoscopy Department.
• Influence and improve patient care through clinical practice, management, leadership, education, research, audit, and professional engagement.
• Participate in shaping the strategic development of endoscopy services within the organisation.
• Be an active contributor to the multidisciplinary team involved in patient care.
• Provide strong leadership to the endoscopy staff, foster team motivation, and promote ongoing professional development.
• Serve as a role model and professional leader within the unit.
