Opportunity Overview
This is a future-oriented position for Industrial Mechanics (Millwrights) at Labatt's Halifax facility, offering part-time unionized roles with UFCW Local 361. The role involves performing corrective and preventative maintenance on industrial manufacturing equipment related to beer packaging and brewing processes.
Work Schedule and Compensation
- Hourly wage ranges between $40.39 and $41.74.
- Workweek consists of 36 hours organized as rotating 12-hour shifts over three days.
- Shifts rotate weekly between day and night, cycling through Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday and Thursday-Friday-Saturday assignments.
- Premium pay applies: time-and-a-half for 8 hours and double time for 4 hours on Saturday shifts, and an additional $1.15 per hour for night shifts.
- Opportunity for extra overtime on holidays and weekends, compensated according to labor laws and collective agreement terms.
Job Duties
- Conduct corrective and preventative maintenance on machinery in a production environment.
- Collaborate within a team to troubleshoot and repair equipment such as gearboxes, pumps, as well as specific beer packaging machinery including bottle/can fillers, labelers, palletizers, depalletizers, packers, and beer centrifuges.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols, housekeeping policies, and quality standards in food production.
Candidate Qualifications
- Possession of a valid Red Seal certification as an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) or Machinist.
- Flexibility and willingness to work rotating shifts covering days, nights, optional overtime, and holidays.
- Minimum of three years’ experience preferred in industrial mechanic or millwright trades, especially within production facilities.
- Experience with welding and/or machining is considered a bonus.
- Demonstrated strong work ethic, consistent attendance, discipline, and an excellent safety record.
- Self-motivated with ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to computer-based maintenance management software for scheduling and work orders.
