Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise all Lab Analysts within the FAMTL as the expert in metallurgical engineering.
- Assess and verify methodologies used for reliability predictions and testing procedures to ensure their effectiveness.
- Stay informed of the latest advances in reliability, maintainability, and testing technologies.
- Analyze test data to identify issues related to component and material design or characteristics.
- Investigate materials design, manufacturing processes, and usage to pinpoint failure root causes and propose design, processing, or usage adjustments.
- Provide technical guidance to prototyping and fabrication teams on chemical compositions, forging, and heat treatment challenges.
- Conduct mechanical testing and metallurgical analysis to understand vehicle and weapon system malfunctions.
- Advise design, modeling, and simulation teams on necessary design modifications impacting product quality and reliability.
- Review weapon system specifications and offer recommendations on reliability, maintainability, and testing requirements for procurement contracts.
- Assist contracting officials in interpreting specifications and drawings related to material requirements and contractor qualifications.
- Consult quality assurance teams on defining critical defects like cracks, inclusions, and porosity, and their acceptance criteria.
- Establish and enforce standards to prevent the use of substandard materials that could risk mission success or human safety.
- Oversee projects developing non-destructive testing methods to ensure incorporation of cutting-edge technology into quality assurance and inspection systems.
- Evaluate technical data packages for completeness and provide detailed feedback.
- Specify necessary product tests including first article, acceptance, comparison, and special tests.
- Investigate failure reports and customer complaints, analyze quality issues, and recommend corrective measures.
- Estimate reliability and maintainability using data from testing, inspections, component evaluations, and manufacturing studies.
- Participate in special committees and technical working groups as required.
- Maintain issued tools, equipment, and high-value assets in operable condition and ensure proper inventory and security.
- Coordinate and supervise training for Lab Analysts on relevant processes and methodologies.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of all sensitive company information.
- Provide support to other Engineering Department members in their roles.
- Perform additional duties assigned by Senior Manager, Engineering and Director, Engineering.
Experience and Qualifications
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Science or an Associate’s degree in chemistry, physics, metallurgy, or materials engineering, with knowledge of metal, rubber, or resin processing technologies; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- Have at least five to six years of experience in supervisory or management roles.
- Demonstrate thorough understanding of material processes and proficiency with failure analysis tools such as SEM, XRF, and XRD, along with specimen preparation and physical material testing machines.
- Prior experience in military or automotive sectors is advantageous.
- Capable of interpreting complex technical data, engineering drawings, and documents.
- Exhibit strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make independent decisions.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications is preferred.
- Effective communication skills in English, both written and spoken, are essential.
- Possess or be eligible to obtain a valid UAE driver’s license.
