MESM CAT A2 and B Operator

Overview

Frazer-Nash Consultancy is seeking experienced MESM CAT A2 and B operators to join our established team supporting submarine engineering and safety. We offer a dynamic, flexible hybrid working model divided between office, client sites, and remote work across locations such as Glasgow, Plymouth, Bristol, Warrington, with other locations also under consideration. The annual salary ranges from £50,000 to £76,000 depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Developing and maintaining safety case documentation supporting the operation of naval nuclear reactor plants.
• Optimizing maintenance period scopes for submarine platforms.
• Assessing submarine commissioning and life extension projects.
• Supporting the AUKUS initiative and embedded client roles for various submarine classes.
• Conducting safety hazard analyses to guide future submarine design.
• Providing technical oversight for civil nuclear power plants during planned outages.
• Applying SM SQEP expertise to support facility engineering and shore infrastructure resilience.

Required Skills and Experience

• Experience as MESM Cat A2 and Cat B operators.
• Background in the commercial sector supporting submarine enterprises.
• Knowledge of whole boat or nuclear safety cases, including safety analysis methods such as HAZID, hazard management, functional hazard assessment, and classification.
• Competency in risk management practices including ALARP assessments.
• Familiarity with technical assurance and governance frameworks.
• Professional qualifications such as Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status, or active pursuit thereof.

Additional Requirements

Applicants must pass pre-employment screening and satisfy UK National Security Vetting clearance criteria due to the sensitive nature of the work.
