Role Overview
The Mechanical Engineer focusing on Product & Systems Development will play a key role in designing, validating, and enhancing sophisticated wheel systems and related components specific to mining applications. Working full-time from the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, this position involves conceptualizing mechanical designs, executing engineering calculations, and crafting detailed CAD models and drawings to support prototype and production phases. The role integrates conducting R&D tasks, testing, analysing data, and applying findings to refine designs and systems. Close collaboration with manufacturing, supply chain, and field teams is essential to guarantee manufacturability, compliance with engineering standards, and alignment with operational demands. Responsibilities also include managing technical documentation, assisting in project planning and delivery, and engaging with various stakeholders to troubleshoot engineering challenges and promote ongoing product improvement.
Qualifications and Skills
- Robust knowledge of Mechanical Engineering principles applicable to product and systems development.
- Proficiency in mechanical design and expertise in CAD tools for complex assemblies and component modelling.
- Hands-on experience with research and development, including prototyping, testing, and data-driven iterative design enhancements.
- Project management skills to plan, coordinate, and document engineering projects in a cross-functional environment.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Preferably experienced in mining, heavy machinery, or industrial equipment design and validation.
- Understanding of relevant mechanical and mining-related engineering standards, safety regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving aptitude with meticulous attention to quality and safety.
- Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams and liaise with external stakeholders.
