Role Overview

The Managing Director of Finance and Operations will lead Village Capital’s finance and operations functions, ensuring financial robustness, regulatory adherence, and effective operational workflows. Collaborating with the CEO and Managing Director for Impact Investments, this person will spearhead the financial strategy and operational framework of the organization. A strong background in investment management and experience with blended finance models is essential to align the organization’s traditional grant-reliant revenue with evolving investment initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop and implement automated systems for accurate, timely financial data collection and reporting.
• Prepare comprehensive monthly and annual financial statements, dashboards, and forecasts to support decision-making at senior management and board levels.
• Manage investment and grant funding tracking to ensure financial performance and compliance.
• Lead budgeting, year-end financial close procedures, audit coordination, and tax filings, maintaining adherence to regulations.
• Oversee cash strategy and asset management to optimize cash flow and meet board reserves requirements.
• Administer fiscal sponsorships, re-grants, and pass-through funds effectively.
• Design and maintain a product and service financial model consistent with organizational strategies.
• Establish and manage an integrated back-office system supporting investment operations including program-related disbursements and fund administration.
• Coordinate finance, operations, and analytics teams to align financial and investment operations.
• Maintain strong internal financial controls, oversee compliance with employment law and regulatory filings, and manage legal and corporate governance activities.
• Manage IT resources, including budgets and personnel, to support organizational needs.
• Build and lead high-performing finance, fund administration, and human resources teams.
• Promote internal communication and a collaborative culture across departments.
• Oversee banking, credit card, and petty cash operations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Engage with third-party service providers to maintain financial services standards.
• Prepare materials and present financial results to the Board and Finance Committee.
• Contribute to business model design, focusing on revenue diversification and stakeholder value creation, including leveraging regenerative and sustainable business principles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related fields; advanced certifications like CPA, CFA or MBA preferred.
• 7 to 10+ years of financial management experience, ideally within organizations with diversified revenues and investment management.
• 2 to 3 years in senior management roles supervising teams and vendors.
• Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial regulations.
• Proven capability to build finance systems for efficient grant reporting and seamless operations integration.
• Expertise in financial planning, accounting, operations, and analytical modeling.
• Proficiency with financial software and data management technologies.
• Experience with human resources management, compensation, performance evaluation, and employment compliance.
• Understanding of AI applications related to financial and operational tasks and willingness to engage in organizational AI policy development.
• Excellent communication skills for diverse audiences and ability to foster positive organizational culture through leadership.

Compensation and Benefits

• Base salary range of $160,000 to $185,000 (or local equivalent), based on experience and qualifications.
• Fully remote work with flexible paid time off and stipends supporting growth and well-being.
