About the Role
The University of Auckland, New Zealand's foremost tertiary institution, is inviting applications for the position of Learning Adviser specializing in English Language Enrichment (ELE). This role sits within the Learning and Teaching Development team under Student and Scholarly Services and focuses on fostering students' academic English and writing skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide academic English and writing support through workshops, speaking groups, and personalized advisory sessions.
- Develop and upkeep academic writing and English language resources, including digital content.
- Work collaboratively with faculties and service divisions to embed language enrichment into curricula and student achievement initiatives.
- Participate in DELNA-related activities such as student referrals, assessments, and creating learning plans.
- Support continuous service improvements by evaluating programs, tracking student needs, and applying relevant research and best practices.
- Offer professional development sessions to academic and administrative staff on assisting students who use English as an additional language.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a relevant postgraduate qualification (mandatory).
- Have a minimum of five years' experience in supporting tertiary-level students with English language and academic writing.
- Demonstrate knowledge of English as an additional language teaching and academic literacy standards.
- Exhibit the ability to assess student learning requirements and craft effective educational pathways.
- Show strong skills in facilitation, teaching, communication, organization, and problem-solving.
- Commit to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity in education.
- Additional desirable attributes include TESOL or EAL teaching certification, mentoring experience, working with international students, and familiarity with platforms like Canvas and educational technology.
Employment Details & Benefits
This is a permanent full-time role (37.5 hours weekly) based in Auckland. The annual salary range is $87,000 to $93,000 NZD, dependent on qualifications and experience.
