Laboratory Technician - Milk Intake

Overview

This temporary role within the Food Ingredients business unit involves performing critical testing of raw materials and in-process dairy liquids to ensure compliance with Food Safety and Quality standards. The Laboratory Technician will report directly to the Senior Chemist and work on-site in Nenagh, County Tipperary.

Primary Responsibilities

• Conduct analytical testing on all milk deliveries in the Intake Laboratory.
• Monitor tanker temperatures and CIP (Cleaning In Place) processes, generate reports, and escalate any concerns to appropriate managers.
• Manage the Critical Control Point (CCP) antibiotic testing at milk intake; promptly escalate any CCP failures.
• Perform testing on dispatched dairy liquids, issue Certificates of Analysis (COA), and report any non-conformances prior to dispatch.
• Record all pertinent data in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and maintain accurate documentation.
• Execute daily calibration routines on testing equipment to maintain accuracy.
• Sample and test milk and in-process silos daily as per schedule, ensuring results are communicated to the relevant production department managers.
• Ensure documentation adheres to approved procedures and quality standards.
• Identify, report, and follow up on issues with supervisors and managers using email-generated reports until resolution is achieved.
• Adhere strictly to all health and safety requirements.
• Provide support to other testing laboratories as needed.
• Manage consumables inventory used in Milk Intake, ensuring budget compliance.

Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum qualification of a Diploma in Food Chemistry, Bioscience, Laboratory Science, or equivalent.
• Prior experience working in a testing laboratory environment, preferably within the dairy industry.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with fluency in English.
• Computer literate with competency in data management systems.
• Flexible, highly motivated, and capable of working independently.
• Effective team player with interpersonal skills and a focus on continuous improvement.
