About Fonterra and Te Rapa Site
Fonterra is a global dairy cooperative owned by New Zealand dairy farmers, fostering a culture of care, collaboration, and contribution to create a better future. Founded in 1967, the Te Rapa manufacturing site is one of the largest, spanning 41 hectares and producing a range of products including whole and skim milk, instant whole milk powders, cream, butter, pure dairy milk fat, cream cheese, and frozen cream items. The site produces enough product to fill 48.5 shipping containers daily.
Role Overview
The L6 Operations Assistant role at the Te Rapa Depot is essential for supporting daily milk collection operations and ensuring truck hygiene compliance. This position demands flexibility to work under varying weather conditions throughout the year while maintaining a focus on health and safety, product quality, customer service, problem-solving, and accurate daily reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate yard equipment efficiently and perform visual checks to ensure adherence to SOPs in CIP and milk reception/load-out zones.
- Manage stock levels for office and depot supplies, maintaining budget standards.
- Assist in moving and relocating tankers, including transporting staff between locations as needed.
- Execute CIP testing, accurately recording chemical and temperature readings along with identifying faults and issues.
- Investigate tanker gradings and initiate maintenance requests as necessary.
- Complete regular reporting and maintain thorough documentation.
- Provide both administrative and operational assistance during audits to guarantee all compliance requirements are met effectively.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is dependable, proactive, and has a positive, solution-focused attitude. Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, operational setting are essential. Key qualifications include:
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Mechanical aptitude with a practical approach to troubleshooting problems.
- Good organisational and planning skills capable of managing multiple priorities.
- Basic skills in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Comfortable using computer systems for data entry and reporting tasks.
- A Class 5 driver’s licence with current driving experience (mandatory).
