Kitchenhand

Role Overview

The Kitchenhand supports the Kitchen Supervisor and Cook to deliver nutritious, diverse, and high-quality meals to youth and staff at the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre.

Key Responsibilities

• Exhibit cultural awareness and/or actively develop cultural competence to foster an inclusive environment respecting the Human Rights Act 2019, supporting departmental initiatives and community partnerships that maintain Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural ties.
• Assist in preparing and serving healthy and varied meals for detainees and staff members.
• Follow strict security and safety protocols within the Youth Detention Centre, ensuring kitchen activities comply with operational guidelines.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety within the kitchen, including work areas and equipment sanitation.
• Support management of inventory and supplies.
• Help maintain accurate stock records and perform stocktaking activities.
• Carry out administrative tasks related to food services such as ordering, storage, and distribution of provisions.
