Role Overview

As a Junior Data Engineer, you will join the Data Engineering team working on critical programmes such as the Federated Data Platform, Common Data Platform, and curation of national datasets including Hospital Episode Statistics and NHS Workforce Data. The role involves collaborating in multidisciplinary agile teams, aiding delivery of data engineering services, and developing foundational skills in relevant tools and platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the creation and maintenance of data pipelines and products.
• Conduct data validation and quality assurance checks.
• Assist with debugging and resolving technical issues.
• Document workflows and procedures thoroughly.
• Engage in learning about data engineering tools, platforms, and standards.

Additional Information

NHS England’s staff bring diverse expertise encompassing clinical, operational, commissioning, technology, data science, and related areas, facilitating high-quality NHS service delivery. Due to forthcoming integration with the Department of Health and Social Care, some functions will merge over time.

Applicants currently working within the NHS who are successful will undergo an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record system, enabling streamlined onboarding including verification of competencies and continuous service dates. Participation can be declined at any point.

Office-based colleagues are expected to spend at least 40% of their work time onsite. Candidates recruited externally will typically be appointed at the lowest pay grade. Visa sponsorship is not available.
