Key Responsibilities
- Assist individual students or groups both inside and outside the classroom to enable broad participation in school activities.
- Maintain proactive attention to health and safety procedures.
- Support the execution of personalized education plans (IEPs), tracking and contributing to student progress.
- Provide assistance tailored to each pupil's unique additional needs, including academic, physical, emotional, and behavioral support, and help develop social and communication skills.
- Help classroom and subject teachers maintain accurate student records.
- Prepare learning materials and resources to facilitate curriculum access or modification for students.
- Encourage student independence by teaching clear strategies that enable self-reliance.
- Uphold school policies and health and safety regulations, ensuring appropriate conduct, dress, punctuality, and attendance.
- Attend required trainings and participate in professional meetings.
- Collaborate with allied professionals like speech therapists and occupational therapists as necessary.
- Foster strong communication channels and working relationships with homeroom and subject teachers.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the principal or Head of Inclusion.
Additional Specific Duties
- Maintain confidentiality, acknowledging that formal parent communications are handled by the Head of Inclusion and teachers.
- Offer academic aid such as individualized or group instruction following teacher guidance.
- Use instructional activities to enhance learning and supervise student work, including checking and correcting assignments in accordance with school policies.
- Keep students focused on tasks and reinforce positive achievements through praise and progress reporting.
- Prepare individualized educational materials to support classroom learning.
- Supervise students in classrooms, specialized lessons, and other school settings.
- Contribute to behaviour policy development, support pupil self-esteem, and manage discipline as aligned with school guidelines.
- Deliver and attend interventions based on SaLT, OT, and ABA therapies to consolidate skills and maximize therapy effectiveness.
- Participate in extracurricular activities such as trips and visits.
- Experienced Inclusion Assistants may mentor new staff members.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma qualification in Special Educational Needs (SEN).
- At least two years of experience working in SEN roles.
