Position Overview
We are seeking a senior, hands-on HR Generalist to act as the strategic HR partner for our East Coast region. This role involves advising regional and market leaders on critical people decisions, managing employee relations and compliance across multiple states, and redesigning HR processes and systems. The position offers significant autonomy and a dynamic workload requiring excellent judgment to address diverse HR challenges daily.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner closely with East Coast regional and market leadership by integrating into their routine operations rather than just responding to requests.
- Coach managers to effectively handle employee-related situations to enhance HR capabilities throughout the region.
- Provide support to West Coast markets including California, Utah, Oregon, and Washington as needed, serving as an additional resource for multi-state employment matters.
- Manage employee relations comprehensively including intake, investigation, documentation, findings, and proposing actions for sensitive and complex issues.
- Direct performance improvement plans, corrective actions, and separations while ensuring consistent standards and thorough documentation across markets.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws for East Coast jurisdictions and maintain knowledge of West Coast regulations.
- Administer leaves of absence and accommodations, including FMLA, ADA, workers' compensation, and state programs, managing the interactive process responsibly.
- Keep employee handbooks, policies, postings, and job classifications up to date as operations expand into new states and markets.
- Proactively reduce risk by identifying patterns in cases and closing potential gaps.
- Automate regular reporting in ADP Workforce Now, conduct audits of system data, organizational structures, classifications, and employee records.
- Manage benefit platform reporting and processes with Employee Navigator, ensuring coordination with ADP and benefit carriers.
- Streamline manual processes such as spreadsheets, email approvals, and redundant data entry by implementing lasting automated solutions.
- Oversee end-to-end onboarding including offer letters, background checks, I-9 and E-Verify compliance, paperwork, orientation, and follow-up in the first week.
- Maintain accurate records in ADP and coordinate with payroll on employment changes and pay details.
- Support benefits administration, open enrollment, and respond to employee inquiries related to benefits.
- Handle onboarding, offboarding, and transactional HR workload for a geographically distributed workforce without sacrificing accuracy.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 6 years of advancing human resources experience, preferably at the Generalist or HR Business Partner level or higher.
- Proficient hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now HRIS management, including custom reporting and data auditing; familiarity with Next Gen is advantageous.
- Comprehensive employee relations expertise, capable of managing investigations and advising on critical separation decisions independently.
- Strong knowledge of multi-state employment laws and compliance, with sound judgment on when to involve legal counsel.
- Track record of optimizing and automating HR processes for efficiency and reliability.
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills to generate, interpret, and present workforce metrics effectively to senior management.
- Ability to establish credibility with senior leaders and assert confidence in situations where people and business decisions conflict.
- Self-motivated and able to work remotely within Eastern Time zone business hours.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related discipline.
Preferred Experience and Credentials
- Background in short-term or vacation rental, hospitality, property management, or other high-volume, hourly or piece-rate, multi-location environments.
- Familiarity with Employee Navigator or similar benefits administration platforms.
- Experience with California and West Coast employment laws.
- Certifications such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP.

Compensation
Annual salary ranges from $95,000 to $105,000, commensurate with experience.
