Job Purpose

The Healthcare Assistant will support the care of our residents, working collaboratively with the team to uphold excellent care standards while ensuring each resident maintains dignity and individuality. The role involves participating in the day-to-day operations within the nursing home.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide personal care assistance including washing, toileting, dressing, and other daily living activities to residents.
• Support residents' physical, emotional, and spiritual care needs with attentiveness to comfort and dignity.
• Assist residents with mobility or learning difficulties, using appropriate aids.
• Monitor residents prone to confusion or behavioral issues carefully.
• Help promote continence among residents.
• Provide compassionate care for residents who are terminally ill, including assisting with end-of-life arrangements as needed.
• Engage residents in social activities and hobbies within the care setting.
• Respond to nurse call systems, door, and phone professionally, and relay messages promptly.
• Under senior staff direction, observe and report on resident welfare regularly.
• Conduct routine checks on residents as scheduled by senior staff.
• Welcome visitors, offering assistance and refreshments.
• Maintain cleanliness by making beds, tidying rooms, and emptying commodes per waste policies.
• Use nursing home resources responsibly and clean equipment used by clients and relatives.
• Care for residents’ personal belongings and ensure clothing is marked and recorded as required.
• Preserve privacy and dignity for residents and bereaved families in adherence with company policies.
• Assist residents during meals, ensuring awareness of dietary restrictions and swallowing difficulties; help serve food and drinks and wash utensils as needed.
• Accompany residents on social outings or appointments outside the nursing home.
• Maintain integrity and confidentiality regarding residents’ personal and financial matters to avoid any misuse of privileged relationships.

Skills, Qualifications, and Attributes

• A genuine passion for working in a caring environment.
• Effective communication skills across all levels.
• Strong teamwork capabilities.
• FETAC/NFQ Level 5 qualification or equivalent, with eagerness to engage in ongoing training and development.
