Role overview

SWARCO’s Dublin field operations team is seeking energetic and dependable General Operatives / Loop General Operatives for a shift-based role. This position supports the installation, servicing, and repair of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) across the road network. The work is practical, physically demanding, and carried out in a busy operational setting.

You will be part of a close-working team delivering roadside and motorway technology that supports safer, smoother traffic flow. The job combines installation work, maintenance tasks, civil works, reactive fault attendance, and workshop preparation duties. A shift allowance of 20% applies to the working pattern.

Shift pattern

• Monday to Thursday: 17:30 to 02:00
• Friday: 17:30 to 01:00

Key duties

• Fit, service, and maintain ITS and CITS equipment to a high standard
• Carry out loop cutting, installation, and commissioning activities
• Respond to faults and perform reactive maintenance within your training scope
• Support installation and repair of roadside technology equipment
• Assist with civil works tied to operational and project needs
• Prepare, assemble, and test equipment in the workshop
• Perform lamping, cleaning, inspections, and routine upkeep tasks
• Complete site surveys and inspections
• Accurately finish and return paperwork, time sheets, job sheets, and related records
• Keep company vehicles, tools, equipment, and PPE safe, organised, and serviceable
• Support trainees, apprentices, and team members by sharing guidance and practical knowledge
• Follow company quality, health and safety, security, and environmental procedures at all times

Day-to-day working environment

• Work outdoors in live roadside and infrastructure settings
• Support installation and maintenance across ITS projects and reactive jobs
• Handle physical, practical tasks including civil works and equipment fitting
• Work safely at height and around live traffic
• Observe RAMS and safe working procedures at all times
• Prepare materials, tools, equipment, and vehicles for daily use
• Attend training and toolbox talks to continue developing skills
• Collaborate with technicians, engineers, and operations colleagues to deliver results
• Contribute to maintenance KPIs and operational targets

Candidate profile

Essential requirements

• Experience in civils, construction, or infrastructure work
• Full B and C driving licence
• Machine or plant operator experience
• Ability to carry out physically demanding outdoor work
• Comfort working at height
• Strong teamwork skills
• Willingness to work shifts, standby, and callout rotas
• Strong commitment to safe working practices
• SOLAS Safe Pass
• Reliable, motivated, and professional attitude

Desirable background

• Training in electrical or electronic servicing
• Basic knowledge of ITS site installations
• Abrasive Wheels training
• CSCS Signing, Lighting and Guarding at Roadworks
• CSCS Location of Underground Services
• Experience in the traffic industry or a similar field-based role
• Good mechanical aptitude
• Interest in learning and taking on new challenges
