Job description
Job Summary
We are seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to join a long-established packaging manufacturing facility in Cork. This independent role supports site management and teams in fostering safe working environments, ensuring compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation, and promoting best practices within the facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with site leadership, staff, and individuals to enhance safety practices and develop comprehensive risk assessments and safe working procedures.
- Maintain a safe working environment by ensuring full compliance with prevailing Health and Safety laws, best practice guidelines, and Approved Codes of Practice (ACOP).
- Ensure environmental compliance by monitoring practices to prevent any negative environmental impacts and aligning site activities with current Environmental legislation and standards.
- Oversee the management of risk assessments and safe working operating procedures, ensuring routine reviews by Supervisors and Managers adhere to business and legal standards.
- Conduct Health & Safety induction training for all new employees, contractors, and site visitors.
- Manage the near-miss and accident reporting protocols for both Health & Safety and environmental concerns; conduct thorough investigations and maintain records consistent with regulatory requirements.
- Perform regular internal audits of the site to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement.
Candidate Requirements
- Possession of an undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification (EQF Level 6).
- Ideally 1 to 2 years of relevant professional experience in a similar role.
- Familiarity with formal management systems related to health, safety, and environmental practices.
- Active membership in IOSH or a similar accredited professional body.
- Strong communication skills capable of clearly and confidently explaining complex topics across all organizational levels.
