Position Overview
Join ICBC as a Driver Examiner in Dawson Creek, BC, offering a meaningful and rewarding career focused on road safety and customer service. This permanent, full-time opportunity involves assessing drivers’ abilities through road tests, ensuring safe operation on provincial roads, and supporting customers through driver licensing milestones.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer road tests for commercial and passenger vehicles (Class 1–8), evaluating driver competence and adherence to safety standards.
- Conduct re-examinations as mandated by the Motor Vehicle Act and regulations.
- Apply sound judgment when assessing driver skills and performance.
- Provide clear, constructive feedback to candidates following testing.
- Offer customer support at the Driver Licensing Centre by explaining licensing procedures, addressing inquiries, and managing fees and fines during testing downtimes.
- Effectively manage your schedule to achieve daily testing goals and meet service expectations.
- Work independently within a collaborative team environment dedicated to customer service and road safety.
- Adapt to diverse working conditions, including varying weather and inside customer vehicles.
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrated strong customer service skills providing a positive and professional experience.
- Ability to make confident independent decisions under pressure in a fast-paced context.
- Comfort giving straightforward, constructive feedback, even when difficult for customers.
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions and adapt to vehicle environments.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities to work effectively alone.
- Proficient computer and data entry capabilities; cash handling is advantageous.
- Successful health assessment based on job requirements.
- Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license or higher with a clean driving record.
- Clear criminal record check compliant with the Criminal Records Review Act.
- Minimum data-entry assessment standards for the role.
Working Conditions and Additional Information
- Role requires work in various weather extremes including heat and cold.
- Employment is contingent on completing Class 5/7 training and testing during probation.
- Possible need for regular overnight travel for testing or community support, including training and meetings.
- Work shifts may be scheduled Monday to Friday or Tuesday to Saturday, with hours subject to change.
