About the company
CDC Data Centres is a leading operator of secure, sovereign, and high-performing data centre facilities across Australia and New Zealand. With campuses in ACT, NSW, VIC, WA, and New Zealand, the business supports colocation, containerised, and hyperscale compute environments through interconnected, carrier-grade networks.
The organisation places strong emphasis on inclusion, diversity, and building a team that is committed, thorough, and dependable in supporting customers and communities.
About the role
This position is based in Auckland and sits within a growing team supporting live, mission-critical data centre environments. The work is centred on operational monitoring, safe procedures, and reliable upkeep of infrastructure that runs continuously.
Applicants from electrical, HVAC, industrial, mechanical, or similar technical backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Prior data centre experience is not required, as structured training and ongoing support are provided through the CDC Academy and on-the-job mentoring.
What you'll do
- Watch and respond to alarms and alerts across power, cooling, and fire protection systems.
- Carry out site inspections to confirm equipment and infrastructure are operating within expected limits.
- Handle faults and incidents, decide what needs to happen next, and involve escalation or contractors when needed.
- Perform operational switching and control tasks designed to reduce the risk of unexpected outages.
- Assist with planned maintenance and supervise contractors on site while ensuring safety rules and approved procedures are followed.
- Record incidents, maintenance work, and observations in a clear and accurate way to support ongoing improvement.
Shift pattern
This is a rotating 24/7 roster made up of 2 day shifts, 2 night shifts, followed by 4 days off.
Training and development
The role includes tailored learning through the CDC Academy for people stepping into this kind of work. You will also learn alongside experienced Service Technicians to build practical skills and confidence in an operations-focused environment.
Benefits and offerings
- Access to the CDC Academy and specialist training to support professional growth.
- CDC Day, which provides one extra paid day off for health and wellbeing.
- Parental leave benefits that go beyond the legal minimum tenure requirements.
- Two days of volunteer leave for a charity or cause of your choice.
- Employee Assistance Program support for you and your family.
- Inclusive social events for staff and families, including BBQs, picnics, and community activities.
What we're looking for
You should have experience in a setting where safety, reliability, and following procedures are essential. This may come from electrical, HVAC, mechanical, or broader critical infrastructure work.
The role may suit a qualified electrician or HVAC technician seeking a move away from hands-on trade work, or someone earlier in their technical career who wants to develop in a stable, growing sector.
Desired background
- A trade or technical background in Electrical, Refrigeration/HVAC, Mechanical, or a closely related area.
- Experience in critical, high-availability, or tightly controlled environments.
- Exposure to monitoring or control platforms such as BMS, EMS, or SCADA.
- Familiarity with complex plant or infrastructure equipment such as HVAC systems, power systems, generators, or fire systems.
- Strong troubleshooting ability, good judgement, and situational awareness.
- Clear written communication for logs, documentation, and incident reports.
Eligibility
Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents and able to obtain a New Zealand Security Clearance.
Additional information
The employer is expanding in Auckland and expects continued growth in 2026. The role is suited to people who are comfortable making decisions, working to defined procedures, and staying calm in high-reliability environments.
