Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Data Analyst to join our team supporting U.S. Customs and Border Protection. This role focuses on robust data management, large-scale data ingestion infrastructure, and delivering compelling data visualization solutions for custom client applications.
Responsibilities
- Perform data mining, preparation, and reporting activities.
- Conduct analyses, studies, and assessments to identify needs and gaps.
- Evaluate data accuracy and reasonableness to support recommendations and solutions.
- Document and summarize analytical outcomes, proposing solutions to customer challenges.
- Prepare big data, implement data models created by others, and provide database support for client solutions.
- Collaborate closely on data science project teams, assisting data scientists and consultants with their tasks.
Requirements
- Minimum four years of relevant experience in applied research, big data analytics, statistics, applied mathematics, data science, computer science, operations research, or related quantitative disciplines; at least two years in applied data science research or big data analytics.
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Operations Research, or similar technical/scientific field. Master’s degree may substitute for up to two years of experience; PhD may substitute entirely.
- Proficiency in data mining techniques, database management, data visualization, and machine learning methodologies.
- Experience with anomaly detection, clustering, and time-series analytics such as ARIMA.
- Familiarity with natural language processing methods including preprocessing, TF-IDF, Named Entity Recognition, and large language models.
- Strong communication skills to explain analytical methods and results effectively.
- Capable of developing data-led analyses and reports with visualizations and data models.
- Advanced SQL expertise and ability to troubleshoot data issues.
- Experience using Qlik, Tableau, and PowerBI visualization tools.
- Knowledge of cloud-based distributed database platforms such as Databricks.
- Understanding database architecture and design principles.
- Proven experience managing, cleaning, optimizing, and processing large volumes of data efficiently.
- Demonstrated AWS environment experience; AWS certifications preferred.
- Awareness of best practices for software and hardware optimization in large data processing.
- Willingness and ability to travel to client sites as needed.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- In-depth expertise with Qlik platform.
- Experience in machine learning techniques, statistical modeling, time-series forecasting, and geospatial analytics.
- Familiarity with Hadoop, Spark, or other parallel storage and computing frameworks.
