Copyright Operations Specialist - YouTube Trust and Safety

About the Role

YouTube’s Trust & Safety team is dedicated to ensuring a secure environment for users, creators, and viewers to freely express themselves. This role focuses on supporting digital policy enforcement related to copyright, balancing the protection of intellectual property with freedom of expression in a rapidly shifting technological landscape that includes Generative AI.

As a Copyright Operations Specialist, you will collaborate with legal and technical colleagues to tackle current and emerging copyright challenges, design operational frameworks for new domains like GenAI content, and handle complex copyright-related escalations. Your approach will be strategic, data-informed, and dynamic, aimed at mitigating abuse while fostering a creative platform ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the expert and the primary liaison for copyright-related matters, including content generated by GenAI.
• Lead and enhance escalation workflows for significant legal issues with limited supervision.
• Collaborate across departments to conduct outreach on processes and policies, collecting feedback to refine operations.
• Identify deficiencies in current operations and implement impactful improvements beyond existing procedures.
• Manage complex, high-risk legal escalations independently while continuously improving related processes.

Qualifications and Experience

• Possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Have a minimum of two years' professional exposure to copyright, digital legal policy, content governance, anti-abuse, or trust and safety frameworks.
• Demonstrated application of copyright law and digital legal principles in practice.
• Capable of thriving in a fast-moving and evolving organizational environment.
• Strong communication and presentation abilities enabling influence across various organizational levels and functions.
• Skilled in business judgment and relationship management across diverse teams and geographies.
• Excellent investigative aptitude including proficiency in leveraging data to inform strategy and operational decisions.
