SOS Children's Villages in The Gambia supports children and youth who have lost or risk losing parental care. Role Overview
We are hiring a Communications & Marketing Coordinator for a full-time, permanent role based at our National Coordination Office in Bakoteh. This role involves crafting and executing integrated communications, marketing, and advocacy strategies to boost public recognition, safeguard the SOS brand, foster fundraising, and promote children's rights.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, execute, track, and evaluate a comprehensive communications and marketing plan aligned with organizational and fundraising goals.
- Lead campaigns and generate content on multiple channels to enhance fundraising, donor relations, public awareness, and program visibility.
- Maintain brand integrity by consistently applying global SOS branding standards across all communications.
- Cultivate relationships with journalists and media outlets to effectively communicate SOS's mission and fundraising efforts.
- Manage and update the organization's website and social media platforms to maintain accurate, engaging, and audience-appropriate content.
- Organize national events and liaise with PR, advertising, and external agencies.
- Set and coordinate national advocacy projects and partnerships based on child-care legislation and the needs of children and youth.
- Provide communications expertise to the fundraising team and supervise the Digital Marketer with clear guidance and ongoing support.
- Ensure all stories, images, campaigns, and digital materials respect privacy, dignity, informed consent, and best interests of children and youth.
- Evaluate outcomes, report impacts, and use data to refine communication, marketing, advocacy, and fundraising efforts.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or comparable relevant qualifications in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, development studies, or related fields.
- Minimum of three years of professional experience in communications, marketing, PR, digital media, or related areas.
- Strong written and verbal skills to produce clear, compelling English content for diverse audiences and platforms.
- Hands-on experience managing websites, social media, content calendars, and digital campaigns, with proficiency in analytics and performance tracking.
- Proven media relations experience, campaign planning, stakeholder engagement, event coordination, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Excellent judgment, precision, and capacity to handle sensitive and confidential content responsibly.
- Collaborative and inclusive mindset with confidence to coordinate team members, partners, suppliers, and stakeholders.
- Firm commitment to child safeguarding standards, SOS Code of Conduct, and organizational values.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in NGOs, child rights, development, advocacy, or fundraising sectors.
- Familiarity with The Gambia's media context and professional networks.
- Experience managing or mentoring communications or digital staff.
- Skills with content management systems, design, video production, email marketing tools, and proficiency in local languages.
