Role overview
This position is for a non-management pastry commis at a luxury hospitality property in West Bay, Doha. The role supports the kitchen team by preparing baked and pastry items to recipe specifications, maintaining presentation and quality standards, and helping keep the work area safe, clean, and efficient.
Key duties
- Prepare dishes and baked items according to approved recipes, food preparation lists, and presentation requirements.
- Handle ingredient prep tasks such as measuring, chopping, portioning, and storing items before cooking or baking.
- Use baking, weighing, and measuring equipment correctly and safely.
- Follow food handling, hygiene, and sanitation rules at all times.
- Monitor appliance temperatures and food temperatures, and alert management if anything is not functioning properly.
- Clean and disinfect the kitchen area, then set up and close down the workstation as required.
- Track the quality and portion size of food produced during the shift.
- Carry out additional reasonable tasks assigned by supervisors.
Work expectations
You will be expected to follow company procedures related to safety, security, cleanliness, and professional conduct. This includes reporting accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions, completing required safety training, keeping a polished personal appearance, protecting confidential information, and using courteous communication with colleagues and callers. The role also requires strong teamwork and consistent compliance with quality standards.
Physical requirements
The job involves regular standing, sitting, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying objects up to 25 pounds without assistance. Work may also involve moving across sloped, uneven, or slippery surfaces.
Qualifications and background
A high school diploma or GED-equivalent is preferred. The role requires less than 1 year of related work experience. No supervisory background or license/certification is needed.
