Overview
The Commercial Gas Operations team is an integral part of Shell Energy Singapore's broader Operations unit that handles the daily management of commercial gas activities. This team oversees gas demand from both long-term and short-term buyers, analyzing consumption trends and working closely with Shell LNG Marketing & Trading's Short Term team to enhance cargo scheduling and terminal storage capacity utilization. Success in this role demands a deep understanding of various commercial contracts and establishes strong collaborations with internal and external parties to optimize operations, sometimes beyond stated agreements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage gas demand, coordinate LNG cargo scheduling, monitor terminal and pipeline capacity, manage gas nominations, and oversee LNG inventory control.
- Build forecasting models, devise operational strategies to free up storage capacity for short-term opportunities, and investigate operational challenges to prevent revenue losses.
- Ensure strict adherence to contract terms and regulatory standards, while collaborating with stakeholders to close operational gaps and enhance value.
- Maintain compliance with internal standards, health, safety, security, and environmental (HSSE) policies, and contractual obligations including GSAs, TUA, TICA, SPA, and related licenses, ensuring accurate and timely billing processes.
- Analyze buyer gas consumption patterns, track nominations and schedules over multiple timelines, and optimize LNG inventory and deliveries for maximum commercial benefit.
- Develop strong relationships with terminals, suppliers, buyers, regulators, pipeline operators, vessel owners, and market players to uphold Shell’s market stance and address operational challenges.
- Troubleshoot operational issues across the LNG value chain, liaise with stakeholders daily, and update business workflows and procedures.
- Contribute operational expertise to new projects, contracts, and spot cargo management while overseeing nomination systems and handling after-hours duties for uninterrupted, compliant operations.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Solid understanding of LNG industry dynamics, Singapore’s gas and power markets, and pipeline infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience with Gas Sales Agreements, LNG Sales and Purchase Agreements, Terminal Use Agreements, and the Singapore Gas Network Code.
- Strong commercial insight into LNG trading, terminal operations, and inventory management techniques.
- Proficiency in advanced Excel for managing and analyzing large datasets, paired with robust analytical abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and adaptability in a fast-moving environment.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, along with a proactive problem-solving approach and the capability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Willingness to work flexibly beyond normal office hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays when required.
