Job description

Position Overview

The Child Watch Attendant oversees the supervision and engagement of children ranging from 6 weeks to 6 years old within the Child Watch department. This role also involves embodying the YMCA's foundational Judeo-Christian values—caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Work Schedule

Shift hours are from 8 AM to 12 PM.

Key Duties

  • Provide attentive supervision and interaction with children in a safe, professional setting within the Child Watch area.
  • Manage child registration procedures, ensuring sign-in and sign-out by parents or guardians.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of the childcare environment, promptly communicating any issues to supervisors.
  • Accurately maintain child watch records, including enrollment, attendance, and special care instructions.
  • Prioritize child safety and wellbeing through all interactions and procedures.
  • Adhere strictly to YMCA policies, including emergency protocols, and complete incident or accident documentation as needed.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Applicant must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must satisfactorily perform all essential duties.
  • 1 to 3 months of experience working with children within the specified age group is required.

Skills and Abilities

  • Problem-solving capabilities for practical, non-routine situations.
  • Ability to comprehend written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled instructions.
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction of two-digit numbers and multiplication/division by 10s and 100s, applicable to money, weight, volume, and distance.
  • Physical ability to verbally communicate frequently, stand, walk, sit, manipulate objects, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision capabilities including close, distance, peripheral, color recognition, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Proficient reading and interpreting of safety and operational documents.
  • Effective written communication for routine reports and correspondence.
  • Confidence speaking before groups of clients or staff.

Work Environment

The role involves regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions and typically experiences moderate noise levels.

Training and Certification

Completion of a New Employee Orientation provided by the YMCA is required before starting. Additional training or certifications may be necessary during employment.
