About the Company

PharMerica, part of BrightSpring Health Services, is a provider of long-term care pharmacy services to healthcare institutions throughout the United States. We are a specialized pharmacy focusing on delivering excellent service and handling pharmacy needs for hospitals, rehabilitation centers, long-term acute care hospitals, and other specialized care facilities. Our organization is expanding rapidly, offering potential career advancement opportunities.

Role Overview

The Business Analyst position is a vital link connecting long-term care pharmacy operations with IT teams and technology vendors. The role involves identifying and analyzing opportunities to enhance processes related to pharmacy operations such as order entry, fulfillment, claims processing, billing, and clinical workflows. These insights are then converted into actionable business requirements, user stories, and detailed functional specifications to guide technology implementation.

The ideal candidate is capable of understanding both the operational and technical sides — comfortable shadowing pharmacy technicians to understand workflows and then translating those insights into technical acceptance criteria for software developers. They critically assess business needs, challenge existing assumptions, quantify benefits, and ensure solutions effectively address the challenges.

Work Schedule and Location

This is a remote full-time role operating Monday through Friday with hours aligned to business requirements. Candidates may reside anywhere within the Continental United States.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts (including up to $5,000 for childcare)
  • Tuition discounts and reimbursement
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Company Paid Time Off
  • Shift differentials
  • Access to DailyPay
  • Pet insurance
  • Employee wellness and discount programs
  • Note: Benefits may vary depending on employment status

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and prioritize process improvement and automation opportunities within long-term care pharmacy workflows including order entry, dispensing, reimbursement, billing, and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct thorough analyses of current and future state processes via observations, stakeholder interviews, process mapping (such as swim-lane and value stream maps), and root cause evaluations.
  • Quantify potential improvements using cost-benefit analyses, ROI modeling, and build business cases to support prioritization and decision-making at the executive level.
  • Establish, baseline, and monitor key performance indicators and operational metrics to evaluate process effectiveness and validate improvements post-implementation.
  • Analyze operational datasets (including production volumes, error rates, turnaround times, rework, claim denials) to uncover trends and areas for enhancement.
  • Gather, analyze, document, and verify business requirements using interviews, workshops, direct observation, surveys, and data analysis techniques.
  • Translate business needs into clear deliverables for IT and vendors such as business requirements documents, functional specifications, user stories with acceptance criteria, use cases, and process flow charts.
  • Break down complex or unclear business challenges into clear, testable requirements.
  • Maintain and prioritize requirements backlogs, collaborating with product owners, project managers, and development teams to focus work on high business value items.
  • Manage requirements throughout the project lifecycle, tracking changes and communicating impacts of scope adjustments.
  • Act as the lead intermediary between pharmacy operations personnel and internal IT staff as well as external vendors.
  • Facilitate workshops, design reviews, and collaborative sessions with audiences spanning from frontline pharmacy employees to senior leadership.
  • Translate between business and technology perspectives, ensuring mutual understanding of operational priorities and technical constraints.
  • Build strong working relationships with technology partners, participate in vendor evaluations, gap analysis, and configuration decisions.
  • Communicate project updates, risks, key decisions, and unresolved issues clearly and proactively to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Conduct both ad-hoc and routine data analyses using tools such as Excel, SQL, and Power BI to inform decision-making.
  • Design and maintain dashboards and reports that provide visibility into process and performance metrics for operational and executive teams.
  • Ensure consistency and quality in data analysis, documenting data definitions, sources, and methodologies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, or a related discipline or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 3 years experience in business analysis, process improvement, or related analytical roles.
  • Proven expertise in gathering and documenting business requirements, functional specifications, and user stories including acceptance criteria.
  • Experience working closely with IT teams and software vendors through full software development life cycles including analysis, design, build, testing, implementation, and support.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications, especially advanced Excel features such as pivot tables and data lookups; proficiency with Visio or other process mapping software.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, derive insights, and influence stakeholders with business recommendations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging both technical and non-technical audiences including senior leaders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and manage ambiguity in a fast-moving environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in pharmacy operations, long-term care pharmacy, pharmacy benefits management, or healthcare claims and revenue cycle management.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy systems such as Framework LTC, DocuTrack, PrimeCare, QS/1, and pharmacy claims adjudication standards including NCPDP codes, rejection codes, and GPI/NDC constructs.
