Role Overview

We are inviting enthusiastic and capable software engineers to join our New York City team as Backend Engineers. This role focuses on developing foundational systems behind our products—AI Studio, Le Chat, and Mistral Code—enhancing how users and developers engage with our AI platform at large scale. Responsibilities include building dependable, high-performance backend infrastructures and APIs serving millions. Candidates from mid-level to staff engineers who are collaborative and eager to deliver impactful solutions are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and sustain scalable and robust backend features and APIs using modern frameworks.
• Maintain high performance and reliability across distributed system environments.
• Work on systems related to inference, billing, AI tools, observability, and developer experience.
• Design secure, scalable, and efficient system architectures supporting fast-growing products.
• Partner with infrastructure teams on deployment, monitoring, and system optimization.
• Produce clean, maintainable code and actively participate in code reviews and establishing technical standards.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, platform engineers, and AI/ML teams to deliver scalable model-as-a-service products.
• Ensure consistent user experience across multiple products like AI Studio, Le Chat, and Mistral Code.
• Address complex engineering problems involving distributed computing and AI integration.
• Stay current with technologies such as AI/LLM integration, observability tools, or backend frameworks and integrate them where applicable.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Proficiency in Python or other backend languages such as Golang, Kotlin, or C# (assessment in preferred language).
• Strong grasp of backend fundamentals including APIs, databases, caching, messaging systems, and distributed architectures.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Self-driven with a mindset to independently deliver end-to-end functionality.
• Strong communication skills and cooperative approach.
• Low-ego, team-oriented, and curious about continuous learning.

Preferred Experience

• Full-stack development exposure.
• Working intimately with APIs and developer ecosystems.
• Deploying software across various environments such as cloud and on-premises.
• Infrastructure management tools including Docker, CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, Helm, and Terraform.
• AI/ML engineering experience.
• Observability and monitoring technologies like Prometheus, Grafana, and Datadog.
• Product-focused and UX-aware mindset.
