This Assistant Project Manager position is based in Leatherhead, England, with flexible work locations including South Mimms or Dartford and will involve travel to project sites and offices as needed. Responsibilities involve site visits and health and safety audits, including night shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Project Manager in overseeing the entire lifecycle of PDA projects across the network, including pavement, safety improvements, structural refurbishments, geotechnical, and drainage works.
- Engage and coordinate with all project stakeholders, focusing on satisfying National Highways and Connect Plus requirements.
- Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, meet quality standards, and produce complete documentation for project closure.
- Implement innovative and efficient design and construction methods.
- Promote adherence to the company's Zero Harm safety plan during project delivery.
- Manage multiple projects at varying stages with Project Manager support.
- Oversee end-to-end project management tasks such as scheme development, stakeholder engagement (asset teams, designers, contractors), programme scheduling with P6 tools, and commercial management including cost planning, invoice approvals, forecasting, and supply chain management.
- Commission and supervise internal and external resources with regard to quality, budget, and timelines.
- Lead project gateway approvals and collaborative cost reviews with clients and project teams, ensuring compliance with governance procedures including preparation for presentations.
- Provide regular reporting on schedule, progress, risks, and commercial status to internal and client stakeholders.
- Participate in the Collaborative M25 Community activities like balanced scorecards, workshops, and forums.
- Embody and promote the Connect Plus company values and support sustainability goals aligned with the business plan.
Qualifications and Personal Attributes
- Preferred experience in project management supported by recognized qualifications such as PRINCE2 or APMP, or actively pursuing these certifications.
- Comprehensive knowledge of highway or structural engineering principles and the associated design sectors.
- Familiarity with CDM (Construction Design and Management) regulations and health and safety legislation.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and excellent communication skills.
- A safety-first mindset and proven safety management culture.
- Adaptable and self-aware approach tailored to diverse project demands.
- Resilience and robust presentation and team-building skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks independently and manage workload effectively.
- Competence in establishing trusting relationships with multiple stakeholders.

Experience
- Experience assisting in managing project delivery for existing highway or structural assets within operational environments or transferable experience in related roles.
- Recent involvement coordinating multi-disciplinary interfaces and working with design teams.
- Demonstrated experience supporting project management through full life cycle stages.
