Job description
Role Overview
We are seeking a meticulous and dedicated Armed Forces Post Office (APO) Clerk to support the Postmaster in ensuring efficient postal operations within the APO. This role entails managing mail sorting, distribution, processing, and compliance with postal regulations to maintain smooth postal service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, sort, and distribute both personal and official mail items accurately.
- Verify outgoing mail for correct postage, addressing, and required endorsements.
- Collect letter mail from drop boxes and prepare it for dispatch.
- Bundle, label, and route mail to the appropriate destinations.
- Ensure timely documentation and dispatch of all mail items.
- Redirect and forward mail as necessary to recipients.
- Undertake duties as the APO Finance Clerk, including managing postage stock inventories.
- Apply postal rules and compliance for mail destined domestically and internationally.
- Provide clerical support covering the entire APO operational hours.
- Adhere strictly to OASIS policies, directives, and reporting standards.
- Conduct additional tasks as directed by the Postmaster or Support Services Manager.
Additional Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage inventory levels and cash flow within the unit.
- Maintain a high standard of customer satisfaction through prompt and effective service.
- Assist customers in navigating postal processes and addressing their requests per regulations.
Technical and Behavioral Competencies
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word.
- Experienced in performing front desk customer service responsibilities.
- Strong communication skills with demonstration of professional and safe work behavior.
- Capable of working independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Leadership and Management Skills
- Exhibits leadership presence when interacting with staff, customers, and management.
- Able to lead and direct team members effectively as required.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to delegate and manage tasks efficiently.
Working Relationships
- Reports directly to the Postmaster.
- Supervises the On-Site Service Manager.
- Collaborates internally with On-Site Service, Custodial FAM, Service Support Center, Logistics Service Team, and Maintenance Support Team.
- Maintains external liaison with HLS.
Qualifications and Experience
- Essential knowledge in cash handling procedures.
- Experience in postal services, logistics, or related disciplines is required.
- Desirable qualifications include experience with SAP software and having an Associate degree or higher in Management.
Licenses and Physical Requirements
- Possession of a valid driver's license is mandatory.
- Physical capability to lift objects weighing up to 70 lbs (32 kg).
- Ability to stand continuously for up to 4 hours during work shifts.
Security Clearance
Candidates must be U.S. citizens eligible for and able to obtain a U.S. Secret security clearance or the Australian equivalent. Maintaining the required security and medical clearances is a condition of employment.
