Role Overview
Skillwell is looking to hire an Agile Coach based in Ireland, working remotely. This role demands a hands-on approach in coaching engineering teams to deliver continuous value using modern software engineering and lean methodologies. The focus is on nurturing collaboration, technical excellence, and a continuous improvement mindset.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and facilitate Agile ceremonies such as daily stand-ups, iteration planning, retrospectives, and cross-team alignment meetings, both at team and organizational levels, aiming to enhance Agile maturity.
- Assist teams in implementing Lean Product Development methods to produce value incrementally and efficiently through frequent feedback loops.
- Encourage the use and adoption of Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) and Example Mapping exercises to establish clear, verifiable acceptance criteria involving Domain Experts, Developers, and QA Engineers.
- Work with Domain Experts to ensure that the Product Backlog is properly defined, prioritized, and prepared for upcoming iterations.
- Guide engineering teams towards becoming self-organized and high functioning by promoting shared ownership, collective learning, and rigorous delivery habits.
- Implement and monitor team performance metrics based on DORA and SPACE frameworks to assess workflow, quality, and team health.
- Promote Extreme Programming (XP) practices such as Pair Programming, Ensemble Programming, legacy code refactoring, Test-Driven Development (TDD), and Continuous Integration to cultivate a culture of consistent technical discipline and quality.
- Foster a mindset of ongoing improvement by aiding teams in recognizing and resolving bottlenecks within their delivery pipeline.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Proven success in facilitating Agile ceremonies (e.g., Scrum Master roles) and guiding teams through planning, retrospectives, and daily coordination.
- Strong knowledge of Agile frameworks including Scrum, Kanban, XP, and Lean principles, with ability to tailor these practices suitably to various organizational needs.
- Experienced in introducing and sustaining technical practices like BDD, TDD, and Continuous Integration.
- Demonstrated capability to apply performance metrics such as DORA and SPACE for informed continuous enhancement.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing teams without formal authority and establishing trust across cross-functional groups.
- Familiarity with Domain-Driven Design principles is advantageous.
- A solid background in software engineering combined with an understanding of contemporary software development practices is essential.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
