Job description

Role Overview

Amazon is hiring a Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Officer to join its expanding team in the UAE delivery stations located in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. This essential position supports the ongoing growth and safety culture by ensuring all team members operate in a secure, motivated, and compliant environment. Reporting to the Country WHS Manager, the officer will be instrumental in overseeing and enforcing health and safety protocols across sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead comprehensive risk assessments for existing and new site activities.
  • Develop and maintain the site’s WHS training matrix.
  • Implement and enforce site-specific WHS standards and guidelines.
  • Drive WHS objectives and program execution at the site level.
  • Foster a safety-conscious culture by delivering daily health and safety updates during shift briefings.
  • Conduct frequent safety audits to identify and rectify non-compliance issues related to equipment and processes.
  • Perform regular WHS checks including GEMBA walks, area inspections, and vehicle/driver evaluations.
  • Respond promptly to incident and occupational injury cases onsite.
  • Support area managers with incident investigations, documentation, and communicating lessons learned.
  • Assist operations teams with compliance tracking and corrective action plans in Gensuite, ensuring adherence to global and local WHS regulations.
  • Manage PPE inventory and coordinate procurement as necessary.
  • Ensure completion of basic firefighting and first aid training for employees.
  • Carry out daily Trailer Dock Release inspections and reporting.
  • Monitor and manage the Daily Action Tracking System for timely resolution of WHS actions.
  • Participate in safety walks with site management, providing insight on hazards and unsafe behaviors.
  • Provide daily progress updates to the Country WHS Manager on safety objectives, incidents, and action items.
  • Organize WHS committee meetings including agenda preparation and minutes documentation.
  • Review and approve daily Permit to Work documents in coordination with operational and facilities teams.
  • Oversee WHS-related procurement processes and follow-ups at the site.
  • Prepare risk assessments and emergency response strategies.
  • Coordinate emergency and medical evacuation drills, maintaining comprehensive records.
  • Monitor heat index data and provide site support accordingly.
  • Offer response and assistance for site-specific or unexpected events and activities.
  • Gain practical experience through on-road exposure related to the delivery operations.
  • Utilize strong computer skills for data analysis and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Technical background in Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics and Communication, or Instrumentation and Controls.
  • Possession of NEBOSH National General Certificate or NVQ Level 3 in Health and Safety.

Desirable Attributes

  • Fluency in English for speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Willingness to work all shifts including overtime, supporting 24/7 operations even on holidays.
