About the role
Bathurst Regional Council is seeking a practical, motivated Water Service Operator to support the upkeep of its treated and raw water reticulation networks and associated infrastructure. This is a hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys outdoor work, variety in their day, and solving problems as they arise.
The role plays an important part in helping ensure the water supplied to Bathurst residents meets health, environmental, and community standards. You will work within a team responsible for operating and maintaining Council’s water reticulation networks, with a strong focus on checking, maintaining, and operating valves and hydrants across planned maintenance, planned works, emergency response, and water quality activities.
The ideal person will be comfortable working collaboratively while completing a broad range of tasks.

Essential criteria
- Solid working knowledge of reticulation network operations and maintenance, including valves and hydrants
- Strong understanding of water hydraulics
- Willingness and ability to participate in a rotating on-call roster and work outside standard hours when needed
- Good awareness and understanding of Work Health and Safety requirements
- Current NSW Class C driver licence
- White Card (WHS Construction Induction)
- Working knowledge of the metric system
- Experience using small plant commonly used in the construction industry
- Demonstrated ability to supervise or lead a small team
- Certificate III in Water Operations, or the ability to obtain it within 12 months

Employment details
This is a permanent, full-time role with 38 hours per week. The salary is $1,237.70 to $1,300.25 per week, plus 12% superannuation. The role also requires participation in a rotating on-call roster and availability to work outside ordinary hours.
