Overview
The Ward Medicines Assistant position is a full-time role, with part-time options considered, designed to support nursing and clinical pharmacy teams in the safe distribution of medications and aiding in patient discharges. This role provides a valuable opportunity to join clinical teams that work closely alongside nursing and pharmacy professionals, promoting a comprehensive and patient-centered pharmacy service.
Role Details and Responsibilities
The Ward Medicines Assistant bridges the gap between clinical pharmacy services and dispensary operations by assisting nurses in patient care on the wards. Key duties include supplying medicines, administering drugs, dispensing medication, and using clinical systems to support nursing staff and patients efficiently. The working hours are currently 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, with weekend shifts mandated on a rota basis at North Tyneside General Hospital.
Work Environment and Facilities
The role is embedded in a trust managing multiple hospitals including those at North Tyneside, Wansbeck, Hexham, alongside smaller community hospitals and clinics across several locations from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed. Services extend into patient homes and local community health centres, focused on empowering patients with options for independent living and minimizing hospital admissions. The trust maintains one of the largest patient experience programs in England, aimed at delivering exceptional care to all service users.
