About Jacobs and Your Role

As a Transport Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing safer, more sustainable streets and public spaces. Your expertise and practical outlook will be applied to complex urban transport issues, collaborating across multidisciplinary teams to create context-sensitive designs that positively impact communities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of traffic engineering and active travel projects.
  • Produce and assess detailed designs, drawings, reports, and tender documents.
  • Apply Irish design principles and guidance to generate practical, environmentally responsive solutions.
  • Support project and client management through effective resource, quality, and commercial oversight.
  • Engage proactively with clients, local authorities, and other stakeholders.
  • Review deliverables to ensure consistency and technical accuracy.
  • Mentor junior staff and foster a collaborative team environment.
  • Contribute to business development efforts, including bid preparation and client outreach.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in engineering or transport-related field.
  • Technical proficiency in traffic engineering encompassing junction and road link analysis, traffic signals design, road markings, signage, pavement, drainage, and utilities.
  • Experience with tender documentation and works specification preparation.
  • Specialized knowledge in urban streets, active travel, bus priority, public transport, and public realm initiatives.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Irish standards and frameworks such as DMURS, Cycle Design Manual, Capital Works Management Framework, Transport Appraisal Framework, NTA Project Approval Guidelines, TII standards, and sustainable transport policies.
  • Track record of managing projects through all design phases including site supervision.
  • Ability to balance workload effectively while guiding junior team members and contributing to overall team development.
  • Experience with bid submissions, client interactions, and awareness of current industry trends and best practices.
  • Strong commitment to knowledge sharing and leadership in technical disciplines.
