Role Overview
The position of Traffic Surveyor is full-time and based on-site in Lagos. The core responsibilities include performing field traffic counts and overseeing observations at assigned sites that involve tracking vehicles, pedestrians, and public transport usage. The surveyor will be responsible for the setup and management of data collection devices, ensuring accurate measurement recording and proper data submission. Day-to-day tasks include preparing survey tools, adhering to standard procedures, upholding safety protocols when working proximate to roads, and reporting any challenges faced during fieldwork. Additional duties may involve preliminary validation of data, assisting with summary reports of findings, and collaborating closely with project planners and engineers.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Proven ability to perform field surveys, with accuracy in traffic counting, data logging, and commitment to methodological standards.
- Basic knowledge or a keen willingness to learn transport and traffic concepts such as flow dynamics, congestion, and intersection operations.
- Excellent attention to detail, dependability, and dedication to maintaining high data quality in dynamic roadside environments.
- Capability to adhere to safety guidelines and work for extended periods outdoors in roadside conditions while maintaining alertness.
- Good communication skills for effective coordination with supervisors, reporting, and teamwork.
- Comfortable using handheld technology or tablets for recording traffic data.
- Minimum educational qualification is a high school diploma or its equivalent; technical or vocational training related to transport, civil engineering, or similar disciplines is advantageous.
- Previous exposure or experience in traffic surveying, transport studies, or field data collection is beneficial but not essential.
- Flexibility to work during early mornings, evenings, or weekends in alignment with survey timetables.
