About the organisation
Tātaki Auckland Unlimited is Auckland’s economic development agency for Tāmaki Makaurau. The organisation is focused on driving a stronger, more vibrant economy and creating better-quality jobs for Aucklanders.
It also acts as the steward of several iconic venues and operates as New Zealand’s only major integrated performing arts centre, supported by a commercial conventions business. Its work spans national and international performances, conventions, meetings, and live entertainment.
The opportunity
We are seeking casual technicians to join the Lighting & Staging team within the Technical Productions department.
This is a practical, hands-on role supporting the delivery of technical production services for a broad range of events, including Auckland Live and Conventions programmes as well as co-produced and presented events.
You will work across well-known venues such as The Civic, Aotea Centre, Auckland Town Hall, Bruce Mason Centre, and other locations as needed.
What you will do
- Install, dismantle, and prepare lighting, rigging, and staging equipment in different venues.
- Support live productions including concerts, musicals, dance shows, conferences, and major civic events.
- Work closely with an experienced technical team to ensure every event is delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high professional standard.
- Communicate with clients, performers, and event organisers to make sure technical needs are understood and expectations are met.
- Look after technical equipment and venue infrastructure through regular care and maintenance.
About you
To succeed in this role, you should bring experience from live events or the performing arts environment, along with a solid practical understanding of theatre language, lighting systems, rigging, and staging methods.
A qualification in Entertainment Technology or a similar discipline from institutions such as MAINZ, SAE, Unitec, or NZ Arts School would be an advantage.
You will also need strong collaboration, organisation, and troubleshooting skills, plus the ability to stay calm, professional, and detail-focused when working under pressure.
A strong commitment to workplace safety and excellent client service is essential. You must also be comfortable working varied shifts, including evenings and weekends, and hold a current driver’s licence.
What we offer
You will join a team that is passionate about delivering outstanding entertainment across a range of venues, while being part of a rich culture with many stakeholders to engage and support.
As part of the Auckland Council Group, you can access a range of employee benefits and discounts, including savings on financial services, insurance, entertainment, and lifestyle offers.
You will also work alongside respected specialists who collaborate across the region to support Auckland’s growth and development. The organisation values diversity, trust, and the contribution of both individuals and teams.
