About the Role
Gritter Francona seeks a dedicated Technical Writer/Editor to create, review, and refine a wide array of written materials supporting the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) National Center for PTSD's educational media projects. This position demands translating complex scientific data, clinical protocols, and technical content into clear, accessible language tailored for Veterans, trauma survivors, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and the general public.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research, compose, edit, and revise diverse written content assisting educational video productions and public outreach efforts.
- Produce and refine reports, newsletters, brochures, guidebooks, training aids, fact sheets, speeches, scripts, press releases, website content, and other communication materials.
- Transform scientific studies, clinical directives, and technical info into plain language for a broad audience.
- Ensure all documents are technically precise, consistent, readable, grammatically correct, and aligned with clinical guidelines.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts, clinicians, researchers, project leads, and government stakeholders to validate educational content accuracy.
- Edit scripts and production support documents to ensure alignment with best practices and core messaging.
- Implement federal plain language guidelines and editorial standards to enhance clarity and audience understanding.
- Maintain a serious yet hopeful tone emphasizing trauma-informed, culturally respectful communication about PTSD, trauma, treatments, and related conditions.
- Manage document review processes, integrate government feedback, and uphold editorial consistency with version control.
- Verify accuracy of citations, terms, formatting, and adherence to accessibility, branding, and quality standards.
- Contribute to public awareness activities including PTSD Awareness Month by preparing and editing educational and promotional materials.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Technical Writing, Public Health, Health Communications, or a related field.
- At least three years of technical writing and editing experience, ideally within health care, government, educational, or scientific environments.
- Proven ability to develop and refine professional written communications targeting healthcare or scientific audiences.
