ఉద్యోగ వివరణ
Overview
Waimakariri District Council is looking for up to two summer intern engineers to join its Project Delivery Unit in Rangiora for the 2026/27 summer period. This opportunity is aimed at students studying Civil or Environmental Engineering who want meaningful practical experience that complements their degree requirements.
The Project Delivery Unit supports the Utilities and Roading Department, as well as other parts of Council, through asset management, engineering planning, design, delivery, and development consultancy. The district is growing quickly, creating a wide range of infrastructure challenges and hands-on work for the team.
This fixed-term role gives students the chance to contribute to real projects across water services and civil works while building professional skills in a supportive workplace.
Role focus
Throughout the summer, the successful interns will help with field activities, data gathering, reporting, and engineering design. The work spans current projects in water, wastewater, drainage, and roading infrastructure, offering exposure to several parts of the infrastructure delivery process.
Key responsibilities
Working with experienced engineers and project staff, you will support a range of engineering and project tasks across Council infrastructure projects.
Candidate profile
To do well in this role, you should be studying towards an engineering qualification, ideally be within 12 to 18 months of completing it, and show a genuine interest in civil infrastructure and project delivery. Strong communication, planning, organisation, and problem-solving skills are important, along with a proactive attitude, flexibility, and a willingness to learn. A full New Zealand driver licence would be an advantage.
What the role offers
This position offers practical industry experience, exposure to multiple engineering projects, mentoring from experienced professionals, a friendly and supportive team, competitive pay, and the chance to contribute to your local community.
