Role Overview

As a Software Engineer at Notion, you will play a critical role in shaping core user experiences and enhancing how users derive value from our product. You will address impactful challenges with growing independence, developing software that millions interact with. You will take accountability for significant projects, influence technical decisions, and contribute your unique viewpoint toward the product's evolution. Collaborating with experts in design, product management, and data analytics, you will help define the future landscape of work.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with others to design, develop, and deliver new features from initial research and conception through implementation and maintenance stages, such as enhancing onboarding flows to drive adoption.
• Enhance performance, reliability, and polish existing functionalities, for example, synchronizing spell checker dictionaries across browsers or improving search indexing for file attachments.
• Create internal tools that improve team productivity and simplify workflows, such as automating user feedback imports.

Candidate Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, with availability to start full-time before July 27, 2026.
• Prior internship experience in a relevant domain.
• Familiarity and developing proficiency with one or more programming languages like TypeScript, Node.js, or Python.

• Up-to-date with AI-assisted development tools such as Codex or Claude Code and pragmatic in selecting tools that maximize user value.

• Ownership mentality: Proactively manage and communicate progress, identify tasks independently, and drive projects forward with minimal supervision.
• Strong collaborator: Value teamwork and cross-functional cooperation, eager to learn and support peers.
• Enthusiasm for web applications, capable of contributing to and maintaining user interfaces for a large user base using technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like React.
• Basic understanding of backend systems and data storage using databases such as Postgres, MySQL, or MongoDB is advantageous.

• Experience or familiarity with Notion's technology stack including React, TypeScript, Node.js, Postgres, and Elasticsearch.
• A passion for building software solutions for personal use or others.
• Interest in exploring the interplay between technology and society, alongside an awareness of the ethical responsibilities of technologists.
• Appreciation of computing pioneers and their contributions, reflecting a deep interest in the discipline's history and evolution.

Compensation and Values

Notion offers a highly competitive salary, equity, and benefits package. Compensation is determined based on factors including location, job scope, complexity, and individual expertise. For positions based in San Francisco or New York City, the anticipated salary range is $126,000 to $146,000 annually.
