Software Engineer Manager

Overview

The Software Engineer Manager will oversee the entire lifecycle of software products and services development, including planning, implementation, integration, testing, and ongoing operational support for the Ecobank group. Reporting to the Chief Software Architect, this role ensures alignment with group-wide architectural software strategies and collaborates closely with business analysts, project managers, and business leaders to develop customer-focused solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage technical aspects of software projects, providing guidance and training to Senior and Junior Software Engineers across Ecobank entities.
• Drive the adoption and implementation of a three-tier domain architecture covering Commercial, Corporate, and Consumer Banking sectors.
• Collaborate across units to dismantle silos and promote a unified vision and strategy.
• Assist team members with root cause analysis, code reviews, and unit testing to ensure software quality.
• Develop and deploy software programs adhering to standards and requirements.
• Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date documentation and ensure compliance with programming standards.
• Investigate software-related issues and implement effective solutions to optimize performance.
• Encourage and support innovative improvements to enhance processes and financial outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience

• University degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic or Mechanical Engineering, Numerical Science, or a related field.
• A minimum of 12 years of IT experience with at least 8 years in technology roles within fintech or banking sectors.
• An MBA qualification is a plus.
• Multilingual skills are advantageous.

Technical Expertise

• Proven experience in developing software within service-oriented architecture (SOA) frameworks.
• Solid understanding of microservices architecture, containerization, and DevOps CI/CD pipelines.
• Expertise in programming languages and standards such as Java, REST APIs, XQuery, XPath, XSLT, JMS, and technologies including Memcached, Apache HTTPd, Oracle Middleware, Linux, MySQL, JSF, Spring MVC, SQL, PL/SQL, NoSQL, and both structured and unstructured data management.
• Strong knowledge of Systems Development Life Cycle methodologies and software design patterns.
• Experience with workflow systems and Oracle Banking platforms such as OBDX and Flexcube, plus digital technologies.
• Knowledgeable about security standards and best practices governing software development.
• Advanced skills in data structures, algorithms, and performance tuning.

Additional Core Skills

• Hands-on experience with Oracle Flexcube Core Banking system modules (CASA, Loans, Payments, GL, etc.), including architecture, configuration, customization, and integration.
• Capability to troubleshoot and resolve production issues in Core Banking environments.
• Advanced Oracle PL/SQL programming skills, including writing complex queries, stored procedures, functions, packages, and database performance optimization.
• Experience with database design, data modeling, and ETL is a plus.
