Role Summary

As an Early Career Software Engineer, you will play a crucial role in enhancing core user experiences and accelerating how users find value in Notion’s products. You will independently manage meaningful projects with broad user impact and collaborate closely with experts in design, product, and data to shape the product’s future. Multiple teams are hiring, and the final assignment will align with your skills and interests.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the full cycle of product features from ideation through launch and iterate based on feedback and data.
• Enhance performance, reliability, and quality of features used by millions globally.
• Conduct data-driven experiments targeting user activation, retention, collaboration, and revenue generation.
• Build and improve internal engineering tools and infrastructure to facilitate safe and fast deployments.
• Contribute to team culture, code standards, and shared learning practices.

Potential Focus Areas

• Work on foundational Notion product features such as editors, databases, or sharing functionalities that support millions of workflows.
• Develop and integrate AI and automation features to make Notion smarter and more efficient.

Candidate Profile

• You have under two years of professional engineering experience and a strong grasp of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
• Demonstrate comprehensive problem-solving skills with careful consideration of user impact and business needs.
• Pragmatic with technology choices, focusing on tools that maximize user and business value and staying current with emerging AI-assisted development tools.
• Show proactive communication, high ownership of work, and the ability to drive tasks forward with minimal supervision.

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience with technologies like React, TypeScript, Node.js, Postgres, or Elasticsearch.
• An interest in the societal implications of technology and engineering ethics.
• Familiarity with computing pioneers such as Ada Lovelace, Douglas Engelbart, and Alan Kay.

Compensation & Policy

Notion provides competitive salaries, equity, and benefits. For roles based in San Francisco or New York City, estimated salaries range from $130,000 to $150,000 annually, depending on location, expertise, and role scope.
