Role Overview
The Sheet Metal Fabricator role is based in St. Charles, Missouri and follows a first-shift schedule from Monday through Friday. The position focuses on building, fitting, assembling, and finishing sheet metal parts used in custom trailers, displays, and specialty vehicles. The work calls for accurate measuring, layout, cutting, bending, forming, and assembly, along with a strong commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and safety.
This is a fast-paced production environment where daily work may change based on schedules and customer needs. The role requires flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to keep improving skills across different manufacturing tasks.
Responsibilities
- Help maintain a safe workplace by following company safety rules, OSHA requirements, and proper PPE use.
- Carry out sheet metal fabrication work such as measuring, laying out, cutting, bending, forming, fitting, and assembling parts from engineering drawings.
- Read blueprints, fabrication prints, and work instructions accurately to guide the build process.
- Operate sheet metal equipment including press brakes, shears, rollers, punches, notchers, ironworkers, and similar machinery.
- Produce precise fabricated parts while meeting quality expectations and production timelines.
- Check dimensions with tools such as tape measures, calipers, squares, and protractors.
- Grind, deburr, sand, and complete finishing work on fabricated parts.
- Install fabricated components into finished assemblies.
- Report drawing issues or fabrication concerns to supervisors and engineering staff.
- Keep the work area clean, orderly, and safe.
- Assist with continuous improvement efforts and take on other assigned duties as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of experience in sheet metal fabrication, metal forming, manufacturing, welding, or another related skilled trade; equivalent technical training or education is also acceptable.
- Strong blueprint reading ability, including interpreting engineering drawings and fabrication prints.
- Working knowledge of sheet metal processes such as cutting, bending, forming, fitting, and assembly.
- Mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with hand tools, power tools, and sheet metal fabrication equipment.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a busy manufacturing environment.
- High attention to detail, quality, and safety.
- Reliable attendance and openness to overtime when required.
- Stable and consistent work history.
- Ability to stand for up to 8+ hours per day.
- Ability to hear and respond to equipment signals, distinguish tones and pitches, and use hearing protection when needed.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, squat, kneel, climb, balance, and reach overhead.
- Vision capabilities including close vision and/or color vision, plus the ability to adjust focus.
- Comfort working in a manufacturing setting with exposure to noise, dust, and changing temperatures.
- Ability to use PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, and ear protection.
- Ability to use respiratory protection when necessary.
