About the Role
Join Fisher & Paykel Healthcare's Home Respiratory Support Ideation team and contribute to the creation of groundbreaking intelligent respiratory therapies for home care patients. This position integrates physics, physiology, data science, and medical device technology, seeking an inquisitive, detail-oriented engineer or scientist who excels at analyzing complex systems and solving real-world challenges from fundamental principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Create detailed physiological, mathematical, and systemic models related to respiratory therapies and patient monitoring.
- Develop algorithms for estimation, inference, and signal processing to handle noisy and uncertain real-world data.
- Innovate methods to deduce patient physiological conditions from sensor inputs.
- Assess and integrate new sensing technologies into product concepts.
- Plan and execute experiments, simulations, and feasibility analyses.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams including engineering and clinical experts to embed new innovations into functional devices.
- Lead and influence technology directions throughout innovation and product development projects.
- Produce thorough documentation and evidence supporting product development and regulatory compliance requirements.
Candidate Profile
- Holder of a Master's or PhD degree, or equivalent experience, in fields such as Physics, Applied Mathematics, Biomedical Engineering, Engineering Science, Medical Physics, or similar, with 3 to 5 years in industry, commercial R&D, or applied research beyond academia.
- Solid expertise in modeling, sensing, signal processing, estimation, control theory, machine learning, or related analytical fields.
- Experience in developing, applying, or evaluating sensing technologies.
- Proficient with technical computing environments like MATLAB and Python.
- Ability to integrate first-principles reasoning with practical experimentation skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork capabilities.
Prior experience in medical devices, physiological systems, or complex research and development settings is desirable.
